Yow! RIPs...

Not only have we lost Mike Reid (No more cameo returns to The Square for Frank Butcher! I always hoped he and Pat would settle down at last...) but the mighty, mopin' Swede Ingmar Bergman was left us. I'm beginning to think elderly celebs should avoid having 'Name Night's on digital TV. Mr Melly passed right after he had one, too...BTW, wonder what's happened to his caftan collection?
My cinema obsession probably got really established by my sneaking into Manhattan to see a Bergman double bill (SEVENTH SEAL and VIRGIN SPRING, I think-) in some bughouse, having read about what a genius of gloom he was. I've always loved his work, even when he was out of fashion. He also acquainted me with two actors who have fascinated me ever since; Max von Sydow, and Gunnar Bjornstrand.

I'm reading Antonia Quirke's MADAME DEPARDIEU AND THE BEAUTIFUL STRANGERS, which is quite entertaining. I totally know where she's coming from, having had constant crushes on zillions of actors since I was about five. God, I'm a shallow old nutter...
