My cinema obsession probably got really established by my sneaking into Manhattan to see a Bergman double bill (SEVENTH SEAL and VIRGIN SPRING, I think-) in some bughouse, having read about what a genius of gloom he was. I've always loved his work, even when he was out of fashion. He also acquainted me with two actors who have fascinated me ever since; Max von Sydow, and Gunnar Bjornstrand.
