Meh Exhibit at the National Gallery...

Watched a DVD of Verdi's ATTILA, previously unheard by me, with a strong Russian cast. It was pretty lame, though. I can see why it's seldom performed these days.( It's always comforting to to consider, though, that even the greatest geniuses produce the odd turkey.)
Also rather pallid was the show of German Renaissance art , STRANGE BEAUTY, at the National Gallery. The reviews had been poorish, and it's definitely a bit of a rip-off, as you can usually see nearly everything on show elsewhere in The Gallery for free. I wanted to see for myself, though, and it distracted me momentarily from my excruciating depression. On the whole, though, I wouldn't bother. There's a little room at the end set up for people's comments, which are mostly pretty dull as well. I was touched by one poignant little note that said "I am pig ugly. Cranach would have loved me."

Outside, someone dressed as Yoda was 'levitating' rather convincingly. I couldn't figure it out, anyway.
