Writer's Block: Timeless tales

What were your favorite books as a child, and why?

Well, comics, of course.
I was keen on a series of books about twins in different cuntries, with good illustrations. I also devoured the formulaic BOMBA THE JUNGLE BOY, BEANY MALONE, and NANCY DREW mysteries. I admired  Booth Tarkington's PENROD, too. He was a kind of USA  JUST WILLIAM.
I think MOBY DICK made the greatest impression on me The Rockwell Kent illustrations helped me get through the more turgid bits, although I was only about ten when I read it. I always was fascinated by the mystery of the sea, exotic travel, strange psychological states and supertnatural overtones. I looked on MOBY DICK as a sort of horror story, and it's still a favourite of mine, today.
