Checkin' Out the Paper

Jeanette Winterson in to-day's Guardian describes my own mother so perfectly that I have to steal her words for future perusal:
One of Mrs Winterson's favourite phrases was: "Why be happy when you could be normal?" Like most eccentric people she was convinced that her own private planet was normality, and that my search for somewhere else was a kind of psychosis. She distrusted happiness; happiness was a siren song, a false light. The pursuit of happiness was not written into her constitution.
I didn't go out at all yesterday. Did some painting, though. May not go out to-day. I should check this agoraphobia tendency, though...It's just that when I'm geared up to do 'creative' stuff, I feel I ought to go for it, as I'm blocked so often...
